This isn't a tourist spot. It's where locals go for a beer and a bite after work. Expect generous portions, loud conversations, and zero pretension.
The Tapas Scene
Puente Tocinos (POOEN-teh toh-SEE-nos) is a pedania – an independent municipality just north of Murcia city. It has its own life, and that includes a solid tapas scene.
Forget fancy decor or fusion cuisine. Here, tapas bars are functional: wooden tables, football on TV, and families chatting over plates of fried fish. It's relaxed, sometimes chaotic, and always authentic.
Prices are low. Most tapas cost €2-€4. A beer (caña) is around €1.50. You won't find €10 gourmet bites here, but you will get good value.
Best Tapas Bars
These are my go-to spots. They're all within walking distance in the centre of Puente Tocinos.
Bar El Puente
€The oldest bar in town. Their marinera (potato salad with tuna, mayo, and olive) is legendary. Order it with a caña. Address: Calle Mayor 12.
La Tasca de Pepe
€€Best for fried fish (pescaíto frito). Try the boquerones (anchovies) and calamares. Slightly pricier but worth it. Address: Avenida de la Libertad 45.
Casa Manolo
€A tiny place with homemade stews. Their migas (fried breadcrumbs with pork) on weekends is a local ritual. Address: Calle San Antonio 8.
Bar Deportivo
€As the name says, it's all about football. Great for pinchos (small sandwiches) and cold beer. Address: Calle del Deporte 22.
Mesón El Rincón
€€Specialises in grilled meats (carne a la brasa). Their secreto ibérico (Iberian pork) is excellent. Address: Carretera de Churra 15.
Local Tips
Go between 8pm and 10:30pm. Earlier is too quiet, later gets packed. Weekends are busiest but have the best atmosphere.
Most places don't have English menus. Point at what others are eating or ask for "lo típico" (the typical). They'll help you out.
Many bars here only take cash. Bring euros. ATMs are around but it's easier to have notes ready.
