San Basilio has kept its authentic vibe. You'll find family-run bars, simple food, and Murcian hospitality. It's not fancy, but it's genuine.
The Tapas Scene
San Basilio is a historic neighbourhood next to the city centre. It's quiet during the day but comes alive in the evening.
Expect small, traditional bars with a few tables outside. The atmosphere is relaxed and local. You won't see many tour groups here.
Tapas cost €2 to €5 each. Most places offer a drink with a free tapa during certain hours. Wine or beer is around €2-€3.
Best Tapas Bars
Bar El Rincón
€A classic spot with wooden barrels and photos of old Murcia. Their marinera (potato salad with tuna and mayonnaise on a bread roll) is the best in the area. Order a caña (small beer) and you'll get a free tapa.
Taberna La Esquina
€€Slightly more contemporary but still local. Try their croquetas de jamón (ham croquettes) and patatas bravas (fried potatoes with spicy sauce). Good for groups.
Casa Pepe
€Tiny bar with standing room only. Famous for their montaditos (small sandwiches). The lomo con queso (pork loin with cheese) is a favourite. Cash only.
Bar Los Amigos
€As the name suggests, it's where friends meet. Simple tapas like olives, cheese, and tortilla española (Spanish omelette). Go for the atmosphere.
Local Tips
Locals eat tapas from 8pm to 11pm. Go earlier (7pm) if you want a table outside. After 11pm, it gets quieter.
Many bars give a free tapa with a drink during certain hours (usually early evening). Ask "¿Hay tapa con la bebida?" (Is there a tapa with the drink?).
Some smaller bars don't accept cards. Bring cash, especially €5 and €10 notes.
